Idaho Middle Level Association's  Board Goals & Action Plan

Developed by the 2000 Board Members

At the Idaho Middle Level Association's 2000 Board Retreat, the IMLA Board, in conjunction with Jack Berckemeyer, NMSA Director of Member and Affiliate Services, created a "focus list".  From this focus list, the IMLA Board has created goals/action plans for the 2000-01 school year. They are:

  1. The IMLA Board will work to promote the middle level philosophy and to educate stakeholders (school boards, parents, patrons, educators and students) on the value of middle level education.

  2. The IMLA Board will work to help middle level educators create quality middle level schools in their communities.

  3. The IMLA Board Regional Representatives will work to provide "Mini Drive-In Workshops" on relevant middle level topics such as effective teaching techniques, teaming, advisory, and block scheduling.

  4. The IMLA Board will engage in on-going efforts to promote middle level philosophy and strategies through multi-media resources.

  5. The IMLA Board will continue to provide research regarding best practices to members and interested parties.

  6. The IMLA Board will reach out to elementary school and high school colleagues in an effort to improve and enhance transition from elementary school to middle school and from middle school to high school.

  7. The IMLA Board will provide IMLA members with quality middle level in-service opportunities throughout the year.

Action Plan:

  1. The IMLA Board will create and maintain a web site that is rich with middle level information and resources.
  2. The IMLA Board will provide a fall, winter and conference newsletter that is rich with middle level information and resources.
  3. The IMLA Board members will be available to schools and school districts for help when requested.
  4. The IMLA Conference 2001 will be open to all school board members, parents, patrons, educators and students.
